I decided, or rather was advised by my school’s german department, to get a new dictionary. Having previously lived with a small (think about 10cm cube) dictionary since I started learning german 6 years ago. As I’m now doing german at A-level, and with a view to perhaps taken it on further, I decided that I needed one of the huge dictionaries that previously I had only seen on my teacher’s windowsill
Having searched Amazon, the Collins complete and unabridged dictionary looked like a decent purchase: one of the most respected dictionary firms in England and at less than two-thirds of the official price, I bought it. It arrived earlier today after typically snappy Amazon delivery, and I have to say I’m really impressed.
Apart from translations where I haven’t even heard of the english word, It has an incredibly useful section in the middle where commonly used phrases like phrases of disapproval (I don’t really approve of, I am far from happy of), phrases of doubt (there is no reason to assume that, that does not necessarily mean that) and so on. Of course, the snazzy silver and yellow design was a nice change from the normal plain black dictionary colour
The only problem is that in every other single dictionary ever, the sections were in order German to English, English to German. In my new dictionary, it’s the other way round. That’s going to get confusing.
